A client needed practical advice as to what their business needed in order to grow, retain and engage its workforce. We began by understanding the business strategy and their current challenges and frustrations.
Our findings revealed that there was a disconnect from the key business units (managers) and HR. The disconnect meant the HR team did not understand the direction of the business and could not contribute to the business strategy. The impact this had was that recruitment was reactionary and disjointed, on-boarding and performance reviews were ad-hoc, and because there was no HR data there was no management information that could be used to drive the HR strategy.
Our recommendations highlighted the need to align the work of the HR team to that of the business, create some HR metrics that could provide timely and relevant management information and prepare a road map of HR deliverables. We worked with the HR team to deliver these key project such as a talent management programme, performance reviews and employee engagement initiatives. We also focused on of the key challenges which was recruitment and worked with improving key suppliers, training hiring managers, improving the recruitment experience and using social media to attract new talent.
Its the age old question, are you compensating your staff competitively ? We came across this challenge when a client reached out to ask us if they were externally competitive as they had problems recruiting talent in their marketplace.
We undertook a compensation review and using empirical data we were able to determine that nearly all their salaries were below the 50th percentile range compared to other similar size businesses in their region. This data provided management information that allowed the business to make decisions about how they recruit, how they retain and how they engage with their staff. In parallel we addressed issues of retention by implementing a series of initiatives such as internal training, job rotation and improving job satisfaction.
We understand that each company has unique HR needs. Feel free to message or call us with any specifics.
Your time is valuable, and we will make sure to get back to you as soon as we can.
Thanks!
